Like Bradley, Ben is also a skater and shared his thoughts in the new Skater's Bible.

What does being a Christian mean to you?

I know that all my sins have been forgiven and that I have eternal life. I’m never alone because the Holy Spirit lives inside me. I know that I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me. God hasn’t given me a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, power and of a sound mind.

You’re obviously a Christian so what’s your journey been like as a skater coming to a Christian faith?

I was raised a Christian right from when I was young, so I grew up with the teaching of faith in God and in his Word. I overcome fear by trusting God’s Word. God says that he’s given his angels charge over me to protect me wherever I go. So I try new tricks with confidence. That’s why I don’t get skid marks in my underpants. I don’t give a rip when people speak negatively about me. I know who I am in Christ: I’m a child of the most high God, who loves me. I don’t get ticked-off and throw temper tantrums if I can’t land a trick in the first few goes. God says that patience in practice builds character and eventually delivers results.

What verses stand out for you?

I John 4.4, ‘God’s Spirit is in you and is more powerful than the one that is in the world’.
Hebrews 4.12, ‘What God has said isn’t only alive and active! It is sharper than any double-edged sword.’

Romans 8.37-39, ‘In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us. I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love - not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!’
John 10.10, ‘I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest’.
Philippians 4.13, ‘Christ gives me the strength to face anything’.
2 Timothy 1.7, ‘God’s Spirit doesn’t make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love and self-control’.

Any stories or testimonies?

I was at Hillsong Summercamp from 17-21 January 2006. During a worship song, God gave me a vision. I saw a big yellow cross with God at the bottom of it with rain pouring down, and God told me that he’s going to soak me now with his fire, but I’ll get dry eventually. So that really challenged me to want to read his Word more and just find what he wants for me.

Quotes?

When someone says something negative to me I say, ‘I cancel those words in Jesus’ name’.
‘Prior preparation prevents poor performance.’
‘You don’t get a second chance at a first impression.’
‘The pain of practice is better than the agony of defeat.’

Comments?

I look at life positively because of what the Word of God says about Christians: that ‘we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.’ In the beginning God created a system to make us all winners. We were all champions before we were even born, because we’re the sperm that won the sperm race.
